DIY Handmade Embellished Cards and Paper Crafts
Use up supplies on hand to embellish cards or gift bags…great to do with kids, too!
Hope your summer is off to a great start! I’m so happy to be outside tending to my flowers and plants after a long winter here in Colorado—but I still find that some days I want to be inside creating some new craft idea. I spent many summers when I was a kid at the kitchen table creating crafts or sewing when the afternoon thunderstorms hit in the South. My mom was patient enough to let me spread out my random supplies and start on my latest work of art. She often helped me on my projects and I treasure those times working together on creative projects.
This week’s short post is about making handmade cards that take very little time and minimal supplies but will make the recipient feel so special when they receive their gift or card. This is also a great craft to do with kids and let them go wild with paper, glue, stickers and ribbon! The options for these cards are only limited by your supplies (many of which you probably already have) and your creativity.
You’ll see that on a few of my cards I used my sewing machine to attach ribbon and further embellish the cards. This is an extra step that isn’t necessary but I liked the look of it. You could hand sew a few buttons or stitches or leave off sewing all together! Ready to create a fun summer craft? (Be sure to watch my short video for a fun embellishing idea.)
Materials to make Embellished Gift Cards & Bags:
Blank cards with envelopes (I found mine at Michaels in packs of 8) or small craft bags
Various stickers and embellishments like ribbons, beads and buttons
Scrapbook tape or glue stick
Hole punch (if desired)
Sewing machine and thread (if desired)

Instructions To make Your Own DIY Handmade Embellished Cards:
Gather supplies that you may want to use and lay everything out on the table. This is going to be a creative adventure so I want you to pick and choose and experiment with putting things together.
Lay out your designs and begin experimenting with different layouts. Add ribbon, buttons or trim—anything your heart desires!
Your recipients will know that you put love and creativity into your cards or gift bags which will make it so much more special! For these cards, I passed them out as favors for my Southern Ladies Luncheon which you can read about here. Everyone loved their unique card and appreciated the extra time I took to make them!
Hope you enjoy creating! I’d love to hear about and see what you come up with for your special cards!
